South Walker Baptist Church is mobilizing donations to contribute to the devastated communities in western North Carolina.
In late September, Hurricane Helene ripped through several states and caused unheard levels of flooding and mudslides. The estimated damage cost of this storm is $50 billion, making it one of the costliest storms in U.S. history. Unfortunately, this storm has also claimed over 230 lives across five states.
An all-too-familiar picture
13 Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. 14 At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, 15 as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.” (2 Corinthians 8:13-15)
Whenever flood waters lapped over our roads, houses, businesses, and cars back in the flood of 2016, the residents and believers of Asheville came to our community and helped us recover. God never blesses us without expecting us also to be a blessing to others (Gen. 12:1-3).
We have determined, as a church, to gather relief funds to send to a church in a small community in western North Carolina named Bat Cave. It’s located about 30 minutes southeast of Asheville, NC.
How you can contribute
On Sunday, October 20th, we are holding a fundraiser for Bat Cave. 100% of the donations will be given to Bat Cave Baptist Church who we’ve partnered with.
- Pulled Pork Sandwiches (chips + cookie): $10/ea.
- “Hem of His Garment” Shirts: $20
- “Stronger than the Storm” Sweatshirts: $35
We are also calling upon our members to pledge to match an amount of what we raise.
Please keep this community in your prayers.
